He took up a teaching post at Miss Croucher's school for young ladies and was also drawing master at Hereford Grammar School. His works from the period are often characterised by a restricted palette and by careful, precise drawing. The present watercolour dates from 1818. The Homend was rebuilt by Sir Robert Smirke between 1814 to 1821 for Sir Edward Poole, who had inherited the estate towards the end of the 18th Century. Amongst other things, Smirke added a neo-classical entrance front and laid out a park to the north-west of the house. The estate subsequently descended through the Hopton and then Gadesden families, until it was sold in 1967.){kind=link}
