This shows the artist's granddaughter Augusta Sandby, and her nurse Sally Loman in Windsor Great Park. Paul Sandby's brother Thomas lived at the Deputy Ranger's Lodge in Windsor Park (seen beyond) following his appointment to the role of Deputy Ranger in 1746 until 1798. Augusta was the eldest child of Thomas Paul and Harriet Sandby, who were cousins and married in 1785. This would date the present watercolour to circa 1790.
A study of Sally Loman with Augusta Sandby and her younger sister Harriet was sold at Sotheby's on 16th July 1987, lot 88 for £5,000 hammer. A larger view, including the Lodge beyond, was sold at Christie's on 14th July 1987, lot 139. A sketch by Sandby of Sally Loman pulling Augusta in the same carriage was sold at Christie's on 12th July 1994, lot 12.
