She established herself as a portrait painter in London from 1814 and exhibited 147 pictures at the Royal Academy from 1818. In 1817 she married William Hookham Carpenter, who in 1845 was appointed Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum. She produced everything from miniatures to full-length portraits in oil and was well known and successful in her day. Her sister married the artist William Collins, R.A. Examples of her work are in the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. This may be the picture exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1849, no. 376 as `The Children of George Smith Esq.'){kind=link}
