The artist apparently had an easy manner with children and they clearly responded to him as is evidenced by the present watercolour. Hunt often used the same models over the years and with several of his child models, it is possible to see children grow into adulthood. The sitter in the present lively study is possibly the same sitter in several of Hunt's figure studies including cat nos. 10 and 14 in the present exhibition (see cat. 10 for a fuller discussion of `Hunt's Boys').
