The East Lynn valley, lies in Exmoor with its fast flowing river weaving through the valley and ending at Lynmouth. The artist spent part of his summer of 1847 exploring and recording the landscape of North Devon, and especially around the East Lynn Valley and Lynmouth. Cat. no.51 is dated September 10th and another formerly with Guy Peppiatt was drawn on August 27th. He exhibited three watercolours of Lynmouth and nearby Ilfracombe at the Old Watercolour Society's annual exhibition, the following year.
