During the 1820s and 1830s, Hunt frequently spent his winters in the coastal town of Hastings where he likely drew the present watercolours (cat. nos. 34-6). There he spent all his days, from early morning until dusk outside, capturing his surroundings, the buildings and the people of Hastings.
