Duncan depicts Waterloo Bridge from the east with the Shot Tower (built 1826) beyond on what is now the site of the Royal Festival Hall. The Bridge was designed by John Rennie (1761-1820) and was opened on 18th June 1817, the second anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. It was demolished in 1936 after it became unsafe
