Study of a Chinese Man

Study of a Chinese Man

George Chinnery (1774-1852)
Study of a Chinese Man

Pencil
10.6 by 6.2 cm., 4 by 2 ½ in.

Executed rapidly the present study is a visual note for the artist in capturing costume and pose, which can be used for a later more finished work, rather than as a portrait study. The handling is soft, with rapid strokes characteristic of the style Chinnery adopted for his many sketches.
