    Gaskin studied at the Birmingham School of Art and was taught to paint in tempera by J.E. Southall. He exhibited widely and was a jeweller and silversmith as well as an artist. He worked for William Morris in the 1890s and became Director of the Jewellers and Silversmiths School, Birmingham.
